Blue Jay Cottage is newly built in 2009 and located south of Hilo, Big
Island of Hawaii.
It is about 45 minutes drive from Hilo International airport and near KALAPANA
and Pahoa.
Surrounded by lush tropical jungle and nature. You are able to look at
the blue pacific ocean from LANAI(deck)
Near by KEHENA BLACK SAND BEACH and KALANI Retreat Center. For people who
is looking for old Hawaiian culture and laid back life style, Blue Jay

There is a gas BBQ grill on the deck. Get fresh local vegetables from the farmers market and Apple brand local meat for BBQ.
There is a main house in the yard and you are able to walk through the yard to see the beautiful ocean. |

This farmers market is located within a walking distance from Blue Jay
cottage. Open every Saturday morning.
Fresh vegetables, fruits, prepared food, fresh juice and arts by local
artists. Very interesting place to see and full of good energy! |

5 minutes of walk from Blue Jay cottage. This beach is one of few clothes
optional beach in Hawaii.
Sometims, you are able to see spinner dolphins jumping and hunting from
the shore.
Nice to visit here during weekdays, not many people and calm. There will
be bands, singers and dancers on the weekend.
Swiming here is only for very strong swimmers. |

If you are lucky, you are able to see lava flow from Kilauea Volcano. The
photos below were taken July 2009. Just 10 miles from Blue Jay cottage.
You can see lava field at the end of the street toward to Kapalana.

The Star of the Sea Painted Church in Kalapana, Hawai'i
was built in 1927-1928 under the direction of the Belgian Catholic missionary
priest Father Evarist
Gielen, who painted the upper section of the church interior. In 1941, George
Heidler, an artist from Athens, Georgia, painted the lower panels to
complete the church interior. These paintings tell the story of Father Damien (of leprosy fame), who arrived in the
Kalapana area of Puna,
Hawaii in 1864, shortly after his ordination.
In 1990, the church was moved to its present location just ahead of an
advancing lava flow. It is located on Highway 130 between mile marker 19 and 20,
and is open to the public without charge seven days a week from 9:00 AM to 4:00
PM.[2] It is on the
National Register of Historic
Places.
